Zanzibar Butterflyfish

My species/animal is a (fish) Zanzibar Butterflyfish (Chaetodon zanzibariensis) is a semi-aggressive species that is reef-safe with caution, admired for its striking coloration with vibrant yellow and black bands, unique eye-spot near the dorsal fin, and medium size. Males typically display slightly brighter coloration and may be more territorial, while females/juveniles are slightly smaller with less intense coloration but otherwise similar in appearance. They reach about 6 to 7 inches in adult size and should be housed in aquariums of at least 75 gallons.

Provide a well-established tank with plenty of live rock for grazing and hiding spots, open swimming space, and a sandy substrate. Maintain stable water parameters with salinity around 1.020-1.025, temperature between 72-79°F, and pH of 8.1-8.4. A secure lid is essential since many butterflyfish species are prone to jumping.

Diet should consist of a varied mix of mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, copepods, high-quality pellets, and algae-based foods. With proper care, this fish makes a standout addition to the aquarium.
