Yellowtail Tubelip Wrasse

Yellowtail Tubelip Wrasse (Diproctacanthus xanthurus) is a rare and fascinating species that’s both beautiful and demanding. Juveniles act as cleaners for reef fish, picking parasites off but as they mature, they shift to feeding largely on coral polyps—so they are not reef-safe. They only reach about 4 inches in length. Best kept in tanks of at least 75 gallons, with plenty of rockwork, crevices, and a sandy or mixed substrate, clean oxygenated water, and a tight-fitting lid since they can jump. Their diet must focus on meaty frozen foods (mysis, brine shrimp), finely chopped shellfish, and vitamin-enriched meals. Providing that level of care makes this one of the most unique and eye-catching wrasses for experienced keepers.
