Yellowtail Damselfish (Pomacentrus sp.) is a semi-aggressive species that is reef-safe, admired for its brilliant sapphire-blue body contrasted with a bright yellow tail, small size, and hardy nature. Males typically display brighter coloration and may become territorial when breeding, while females/juveniles show slightly duller colors but are otherwise very similar in appearance.
They reach about 2.5–3 inches and should be housed in aquariums of at least 20 gallons. Provide plenty of live rock for hiding spots and territories, along with open swimming space, stable water parameters (salinity ~1.020-1.025, temp ~72-79°F, pH ~8.1-8.4), and a secure lid since many species are prone to jumping.
Diet should consist of a mix of mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, copepods, high-quality marine pellets, and occasional algae-based foods, and with proper care this fish makes a standout addition to the aquarium.
