Yellowtail Damselfish

The Yellowtail Damselfish (Chrysiptera parasema). It is a semi-aggressive species that is reef-safe, admired for its brilliant electric-blue body, bright yellow tail, hardiness, and small size.

Males typically become more territorial and display dominance behaviors when guarding space or potential spawning sites, while females/juveniles are slightly less aggressive but similar in appearance.

They reach about 2.5–3 inches as adults and should be housed in aquariums of at least 30 gallons (larger if keeping multiples). Provide ample live rock for hiding spots and territories, along with open swimming space, stable water parameters (salinity ~1.020–1.025, temp ~72–79°F, pH ~8.1–8.4), and a secure lid since many species are prone to jumping.

Diet should consist of a mix of meaty foods (mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, copepods), high-quality marine pellets, and occasional algae-based foods. With proper care, this fish makes a hardy, colorful, and active addition to reef or community aquariums.
