Yellowtail Anthias
(Pseudanthias flavicauda, female) is a peaceful species that is reef-safe with caution, admired for its bright yellow tail, contrasting body coloration (often pinkish to orange), and graceful swimming patterns. Males typically display more intense coloration with a brighter yellow tail and sometimes elongated dorsal fins, showing a more vivid pink-orange body, while females/juveniles have a softer, more uniform coloration with a slightly muted pink body and prominent yellow tail.

They reach about 4 to 5 inches in adult size and should be housed in aquariums of at least 70 gallons to allow for adequate swimming space and social group dynamics.

Provide live rock structures with ample hiding spots, open swimming areas, and moderate water flow. Maintain stable water parameters with salinity ~1.020–1.025, temperature ~72–79°F, and pH ~8.1–8.4. A secure lid is recommended as many anthias are prone to jumping, especially when startled or during social interactions.

Diet should consist of small, frequent feedings of meaty foods such as mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, copepods, and high-quality pellets formulated for carnivorous marine fish. With proper care, this fish makes a standout addition to peaceful reef aquariums, especially when kept in small groups or harems.
