Yellow Tilefish

Yellow Tilefish (Hoplolatilus luteus) is a semi-aggressive species that is reef-safe with caution, admired for its vibrant yellow coloration with subtle blue accents, elongated body, and unique sand-sifting behavior. Males typically have brighter, more intense yellow hues and slightly larger size, while females and juveniles tend to have softer coloration and smaller build. They reach about 6 to 8 inches in adult size and should be housed in aquariums of at least 75 gallons due to their active swimming and burrowing habits. Provide a deep sandbed for digging, ample live rock for shelter and territory, and open swimming space. Maintain stable water parameters with salinity around 1.020-1.025, temperature between 72-79°F, and pH in the range of 8.1-8.4. A secure lid is recommended since tilefish are known to be jumpers. Their diet should consist of meaty foods such as mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, copepods, and high-quality pellets. With proper care, the Yellow Tilefish makes a striking and dynamic addition to large marine or reef aquariums.
