Yellow Teardrop Butterflyfish (Chaetodon interruptus) is a peaceful species that is reef-safe with caution, admired for its bright yellow coloration accented by a distinctive black teardrop-shaped marking near the eye, subtle vertical banding, and its compact, graceful body shape. This species is known for its striking patterns and vibrant hues that add a splash of color to marine aquariums. Males typically show slightly more intense coloration and may display territorial behavior during breeding periods, while females/juveniles tend to be a bit smaller with softer color contrasts and less pronounced markings. They reach about 6 inches in adult size and should be housed in aquariums of at least 75 gallons.

Provide a well-established aquarium with plenty of live rock for grazing and hiding spots, open swimming space for active movement, and a sandy substrate to mimic their natural habitat. Stable water parameters should be maintained with salinity around 1.020–1.025, temperature between 72–79°F, and pH levels at 8.1–8.4. A secure lid is essential, as this species can be prone to jumping when startled.

Diet should consist of a varied regimen including mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, copepods, high-quality pellets, and algae-based foods. Supplementing with sponge-based or coral polyps preparations can help mimic their natural feeding habits. While generally reef-safe, some caution is advised as they may occasionally nip at soft corals or sessile invertebrates.
