The Yellow Stingray (Urobatis jamaicensis) is a peaceful species that is not reef-safe, admired for its bright yellow to golden coloration, rounded disc, small size, and charming bottom-dwelling behavior. It is prized by aquarists for its attractive coloration and manageable size, making it suitable for smaller marine systems compared to larger stingray species. Males typically have smaller, more slender discs and develop claspers near the pelvic fins, while females and juveniles are broader-bodied, more robust, and grow steadily with age.

They reach about 10–12 inches in total length and should be housed in aquariums of at least 75–100 gallons, providing enough bottom space for resting and gentle swimming. A fine sandbed is essential to prevent abrasions, along with open swimming areas and a few hiding spots or shaded areas for comfort. Stable water parameters are important, with salinity at 1.020–1.025, temperature between 72–79°F, and pH of 8.1–8.4. A secure lid is recommended, as stingrays may occasionally jump when startled.

Diet should consist of mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, small crustaceans, chopped fish or squid, and other meaty marine foods, occasionally supplemented with high-quality sinking pellets. With proper care, the Yellow Stingray makes a vibrant and captivating addition to a marine aquarium, especially for hobbyists interested in smaller, colorful stingray species.
