Yellow Spotted Mesh Sea Star

Yellow Spotted Mesh Sea Star (Nardoa tuberculata) is a peaceful species that is reef-safe with caution, admired for its vibrant yellow-spotted mesh-like patterns, rigid star-shaped body, and unique textured surface. Males typically resemble females in appearance, with no strong sexual dimorphism, while juveniles are often smaller with less pronounced spotting.

They reach about 8–10 inches in diameter at adult size and should be housed in aquariums of at least 100 gallons. Provide ample live rock, sandy substrate, and stable structures for them to crawl and graze upon, as well as stable water parameters (salinity ~1.020–1.025, temp ~72–79°F, pH ~8.1–8.4).

Their diet should consist of film algae, detritus, biofilm, and occasional supplemental feedings of meaty foods such as mysis, brine, or finely chopped seafood. Like most sea stars, they are sensitive to sudden changes in water quality, so a mature, well-established tank is essential.

With proper care, this sea star makes a standout and visually striking addition to the aquarium, though it is best suited for experienced hobbyists due to its sensitivity.
