Yellow Lemon Sponge

Yellow Lemon Sponge (Leucetta sp.) is a peaceful species that is reef-safe, admired for its bright yellow coloration, smooth rounded form, and unique porous texture. Males and females are not visually distinguishable, and juveniles resemble adults but are typically smaller in size. They reach about 4–6 inches and should be housed in aquariums of at least 30 gallons. Provide ample live rock for attachment and shaded areas, stable water parameters (salinity ~1.020–1.025, temp ~72–79°F, pH ~8.1–8.4), and ensure strong but indirect water flow, since sponges rely on filter-feeding currents.

Diet should consist of dissolved organic matter, phytoplankton, bacterioplankton, and other microscopic planktonic foods delivered via water column, as sponges are non-photosynthetic and cannot be spot-fed with traditional fish foods. With proper placement and stable, mature tank conditions, this sponge makes a standout and unique addition to the reef aquarium.
