Golden Hawkfish

Yellow Hawkfish (Cirrhitichthys aureus) is a hardy, semi-aggressive, and highly personable species of hawkfish prized for its brilliant coloration. The body is typically a bright golden-yellow to reddish-orange, often adorned with faint mottled spots or splotch markings that allow it to blend into yellow non-photosynthetic corals or sponges in the wild. This fish is a medium-sized hawkfish, reaching a maximum length of 5.5 inches (14 cm). It requires a minimum aquarium size of 40 to 50 gallons and a lot of established live rock with ledges, crevices, and caves, as it lacks a swim bladder and will spend most of its time perching to observe its surroundings. It is generally considered Reef Safe with Caution: it will not bother corals, but it is an opportunistic predator that will readily consume small, motile invertebrates (such as ornamental shrimp and small crabs) and tiny fish. It should be kept singly unless a known pair is acquired, as it can be territorial, especially towards other hawkfish or fish with a similar body shape. Its diet should be carnivorous and varied, including frozen preparations of mysis shrimp, krill, squid, and quality flakes or pellets, fed multiple times per day.
