Yellow Edge Chromis

The Yellow Edge Chromis (Chromis multilineata) is a peaceful to semi-aggressive species that is reef-safe, admired for its shimmering silver body with yellow-edged fins and active schooling behavior. Males typically become slightly larger, display brighter yellow fin edges, and may show more territorial behavior during spawning, while females/juveniles are smaller, less vividly colored, and often blend within the school.

They reach about 5 inches (12–13 cm) in adulthood and should be housed in aquariums of at least 55 gallons, ideally in groups to showcase their natural schooling behavior. Provide ample live rock for shelter, open swimming space, and some hiding spots, along with stable water parameters (salinity ~1.020–1.025, temp ~72–79°F, pH ~8.1–8.4). A secure lid is essential since chromis species are prone to jumping.

Their diet should consist of a mix of meaty and plant-based foods, including mysis shrimp, enriched brine shrimp, copepods, quality marine pellets, and occasional algae-based foods. With proper care, the Yellow Edge Chromis is a hardy, active, and visually striking addition to any reef or community saltwater aquarium.
