Yellow Dottyback

My species/animal is a fish — Yellow Dottyback (Pseudochromis fuscus). It is a semi-aggressive species that is reef-safe with caution, admired for its vibrant bright yellow coloration, bold personality, and relatively small size which adds a splash of color to aquariums.

Males typically are more intensely colored with slightly larger size and display territorial behavior, while females/juveniles tend to be smaller with a softer yellow shade and less aggressive tendencies. They reach about 3 to 4 inches in adult size and should be housed in aquariums of at least 30 gallons.

Provide live rock formations with plenty of hiding spots and caves, some open swimming space, stable water parameters (salinity ~1.020–1.025, temp ~72–79°F, pH ~8.1–8.4), and a secure lid since many dottybacks are known to jump.

Diet should consist of mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, copepods, pellets, and other meaty frozen or live foods, and with proper care, this fish makes a standout addition to reef aquariums due to its vibrant color and active behavior.
