Yellow / Black Lyretail Chromis

The Yellow / Black Lyretail Chromis (Neopomacentrus ternatensis).
It is a peaceful to semi-aggressive species that is reef-safe, admired for its brilliant yellow tail, contrasting darker body, lyretail fin shape, and active schooling behavior.

Males typically display more vivid coloration, slightly elongated fins, and may show territorial behavior during spawning, while females/juveniles are smaller, less vividly colored, and form part of the schooling group.

They reach about 3–3.5 inches in adult size and should be housed in aquariums of at least 30 gallons (larger if keeping groups). Provide live rock with hiding spots, open swimming space, and a secure lid (as they are prone to jumping). Maintain stable water parameters (salinity ~1.020–1.025, temp ~72–79°F, pH ~8.1–8.4).

Diet should consist of a variety of frozen foods such as mysis and brine shrimp, copepods, finely chopped seafood, high-quality pellets, and some algae-based foods. With proper care, this fish makes a hardy, colorful, and lively standout addition to a reef or community marine aquarium.
