Yellow Banded Possum Wrasse

Yellow Banded Possum Wrasse (Wetmorella nigropinnata) is a tiny, reef-safe wrasse treasured for its shy nature and bold striping. Its slender body is deep reddish-brown with distinct yellow to cream-colored vertical bands across the flanks, often accented by dark edging on the fins that adds contrast and elegance. This species stays very small, reaching only about 2.5 inches, making it an excellent choice for nano or mid-sized aquariums of at least 20 gallons. With a peaceful temperament, it thrives in systems with plenty of live rock, rubble, and crevices where it can retreat and forage securely. Reef-safe by nature, it poses no risk to corals or invertebrates and fits perfectly into calm reef communities. Its diet should focus on small, meaty foods such as mysis, enriched brine shrimp, copepods, and other finely chopped frozen offerings, fed in small, frequent portions to suit its grazing style.
