Yasha Shrimp Goby

The Yasha Shrimp Goby (Stonogobiops yasha) is a peaceful species that is reef-safe, admired for its striking red-and-white banded body, elongated first dorsal fin, and its fascinating symbiotic partnership with pistol shrimp. Males typically display slightly larger bodies and longer, more defined dorsal fins, while females and juveniles are smaller and more subtly marked. They reach about 2 inches in length and should be housed in aquariums of at least 10 gallons.

Provide a fine sandbed for burrow digging, plenty of live rock for hiding spots and stability, and a secure lid, since gobies are prone to jumping. Maintain stable water parameters: salinity ~1.020–1.025, temperature ~72–79°F, and pH ~8.1–8.4.

Their diet should consist of mysis shrimp, enriched brine shrimp, copepods, finely chopped seafood, and high-quality micro pellets. With proper care and the right environment—especially when paired with a pistol shrimp partner—the Yasha Goby makes a standout and captivating addition to a reef aquarium.
