Wide Barred Shrimp Goby

The Wide Barred Shrimp Goby (Amblyeleotris latifasciata) is a peaceful species that is reef-safe, admired for its bold vertical striping, symbiotic relationship with pistol shrimp, and engaging burrow-guarding behavior. Males typically display stronger coloration with slightly more elongated fins, while females and juveniles appear smaller and less vividly marked. They reach about 4 inches in length and should be housed in aquariums of at least 20 gallons.

Provide a fine sandbed for burrow digging, ample live rock for structure and hiding spots, and a secure lid, since gobies are skilled jumpers. Stable water parameters are essential: salinity ~1.020–1.025, temperature ~72–79°F, and pH ~8.1–8.4.

Their diet should consist of mysis shrimp, enriched brine shrimp, copepods, finely chopped seafood, and high-quality sinking pellets. With proper care and the right environment, this species makes a fascinating and standout addition to a reef aquarium, especially when paired with a compatible pistol shrimp.
