White Speckled Grouper (Epinephelus hexagonatus) — a semi-aggressive species that is reef-safe with caution, admired for its hexagonal speckled pattern, robust body shape, and predatory presence.
Males typically grow larger, display bolder markings, and exhibit stronger territorial behavior, while females/juveniles tend to be smaller, with less intense coloration and more cryptic patterns. They reach about 24–28 inches in adulthood and should be housed in aquariums of at least 300+ gallons.
Provide ample live rock for hiding spots, a sandy substrate, and open swimming space. Maintain stable water parameters (salinity ~1.020–1.025, temperature 72–79°F, pH 8.1–8.4) and use a secure lid since groupers are prone to jumping.
Diet should consist of meaty marine foods such as shrimp, squid, fish, mysis, krill, and high-quality carnivore pellets. With proper care, this fish makes a standout display predator species in a large aquarium setting.
