White Margin Unicorn Tang

White Margin Unicorn Tang (Naso annulatus) is a semi-aggressive species that is reef-safe as it poses no threat to corals or most invertebrates, focusing primarily on algae grazing and zooplankton feeding. This elegant species displays a blue-gray to olive body with distinctive white margins along the dorsal and anal fins that give it its common name, plus the characteristic forward-projecting horn (rostrum) that develops with maturity and streamlined proportions. The prominent white fin margins against the subdued body coloration create a refined appearance that makes it one of the more subtly beautiful naso tangs available. It can reach about 24 inches in adult size. Best kept in tanks of at least 200 gallons or more due to their substantial size and active swimming nature, with plenty of open water column space, strong water flow, excellent water quality, and consideration for their generally peaceful temperament that makes them excellent centerpiece fish for large community systems with other non-aggressive species. Its diet should include a mix of marine algae—nori sheets, spirulina, dried seaweed—as well as high-quality herbivore pellets, mysis shrimp, and zooplankton, as this species benefits from both plant and animal proteins and requires varied nutrition including regular feeding of meaty foods to supplement their natural plankton consumption and support their substantial size and maintain the crisp white fin margins.
