White-Caudal Chromis

The White-Caudal Chromis (Chromis albicauda) is a peaceful to semi-aggressive species that is reef-safe, admired for its contrasting black body with a striking white tail, energetic schooling behavior, and hardiness.

Males typically display slightly brighter coloration and may become more territorial during spawning, while females and juveniles are generally smaller, less aggressive, and maintain a uniform appearance.

They reach about 3–3.5 inches in adult size and should be housed in aquariums of at least 30 gallons for a small group (larger tanks, 55+ gallons, are ideal for shoals). Provide ample live rock for shelter, open swimming space, and secure hiding spots, along with a tight lid since they may jump when startled.

pH: 8.1–8.4

Diet should consist of a variety of frozen foods (mysis shrimp, enriched brine shrimp), copepods, finely chopped seafood, quality marine pellets, and occasional algae or spirulina to ensure balanced nutrition. With proper care, this fish makes a standout, active, and durable addition to reef and community aquariums.
