The Watermelon Bulb Anemone (Entacmaea quadricolor) is a semi-aggressive species that is reef-safe with caution, admired for its vivid watermelon-like coloration, bulbous tentacles, and moderate size, making it a visually striking centerpiece in marine aquariums.

Males typically display larger, more robust tentacles and may host multiple clownfish, while females/juveniles tend to be smaller, with shorter tentacles and subtler coloration.

They reach about 8–12 inches in diameter and should be housed in aquariums of at least 30–50 gallons, depending on the number of inhabitants. Provide a combination of sandbed, live rock for attachment, hiding spots, and open swimming space to allow natural behavior. Maintain stable water parameters with salinity around 1.020–1.025, temperature 72–79°F, and pH 8.1–8.4, and ensure a secure lid since anemones can occasionally move or “jump.”

Diet should consist of meaty foods like mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, chopped seafood, and occasional pellets, though they also benefit from the presence of symbiotic algae for supplemental nutrition. With proper care, the Watermelon Bulb Anemone becomes a dynamic and colorful addition to any marine reef setup.
