Watanabei Angelfish, Male (Genicanthus watanabei). It is a peaceful species that is reef-safe, admired for its striking black-and-white vertical striping, elongated body shape, graceful swimming patterns, and ability to adapt well in reef aquariums.

Males typically display bold black bands over a silvery-blue body with long, elegant trailing fins, while females/juveniles are more subdued in coloration, usually light blue to gray with subtle markings.

They reach about 6 inches (15 cm) in adult size and should be housed in aquariums of at least 120 gallons. Provide ample live rock for grazing and hiding, open swimming space, and secure hiding spots, along with stable water parameters (salinity ~1.020–1.025, temp ~72–79°F, pH ~8.1–8.4). A secure lid is recommended since this species is prone to jumping.

Diet should consist of frozen mysis shrimp, enriched brine shrimp, copepods, high-quality marine pellets, and supplemental algae-based foods. With proper care, this fish makes a standout, reef-safe addition to any large saltwater aquarium.
