Viper Moray Eel

Viper Moray Eel (Enchelycore nigricans). It is an aggressive species that is reef-safe with caution, admired for its slender body, striking orange-red coloration, sharp curved teeth, and nocturnal hunting behavior.

Males typically show similar size and coloration to females, with no significant sexual dimorphism, while females/juveniles may appear slightly slimmer and less vibrant in coloration until maturity. They reach about 24–36 inches in length and should be housed in aquariums of at least 125 gallons.

Provide ample live rock with caves and crevices, hiding spots, and a soft sandbed along with open swimming space, stable water parameters (salinity ~1.020–1.025, temp ~72–79°F, pH ~8.1–8.4), and a secure lid since this species is prone to escaping.

Diet should consist of meaty foods such as silversides, shrimp, squid, krill, and other marine-based flesh. They are strict carnivores and do not accept pellets or algae-based foods. With proper care and a secure, enriched environment, the Viper Moray Eel makes a dramatic and fascinating centerpiece in a large aquarium.
