Ultra Black/White Maxima Clam

The Ultra Black/White Maxima Clam (Tridacna maxima) is a peaceful species that is reef-safe, admired for its striking black and white mantle coloration with bold contrasting patterns, moderate size, and vibrant iridescence under strong lighting.

Males typically exhibit slightly more intense coloration and compact shells, while females/juveniles display softer mantle tones and smaller shell sizes during early growth stages. They reach about 6 to 8 inches in adult size and should be housed in aquariums of at least 50 gallons.

Provide a stable base such as live rock or clam cradle for attachment, moderate to strong lighting, and ample open space around them. Maintain stable water parameters (salinity ~1.020–1.025, temp ~72–79°F, pH ~8.1–8.4), and use a secure lid to prevent accidental jumping or disturbances.

Diet should consist primarily of photosynthetic energy through their symbiotic zooxanthellae, supplemented in juveniles by phytoplankton or marine snow if needed. With proper care and lighting, this clam makes a striking and elegant centerpiece for reef aquariums.
