Two Tone Chromis

The Two Tone Chromis (Chromis fieldi) is a peaceful, reef-safe species admired for its striking two-toned coloration, active schooling behavior, and hardy nature. Males often display brighter colors during spawning and may establish small territories, while females and juveniles remain slightly smaller with less intense tones. Growing to about 4–5 inches, this fish does best in aquariums of at least 55 gallons with plenty of open swimming space, live rock, and hiding spots, along with a secure lid since they are prone to jumping.

They thrive in stable water conditions with a salinity of 1.020–1.025, temperatures between 72–79°F, and a pH of 8.1–8.4. Their diet should include a varied mix of mysis shrimp, enriched brine shrimp, copepods, high-quality marine pellets, and algae-based foods. With proper care, the Two Tone Chromis makes a hardy, active, and visually appealing addition to reef or community aquariums, especially when kept in small groups to highlight their natural schooling behavior.
