Tuxedo Damselfish

Tuxedo Damselfish (Chrysiptera tricincta) is a semi-aggressive species that is reef-safe with caution, admired for its distinctive black-and-white “tuxedo” banding, bold personality, and hardy nature. Males typically become more territorial and display stronger coloration during breeding, while females/juveniles show slightly less vivid markings and are generally less dominant.

They reach about 2.5–3 inches and should be housed in aquariums of at least 20 gallons. Provide ample live rock with hiding spots and territory space, along with open swimming areas, stable water parameters (salinity ~1.020–1.025, temp ~72–79°F, pH ~8.1–8.4), and a secure lid since many species are prone to jumping.

Diet should consist of a varied mix of mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, copepods, quality marine pellets, and algae-based foods. With proper care, this fish makes a striking and active addition to the aquarium.
