True Personifer Angelfish

The True Personifer Angelfish (Chaetodontoplus personifer) is a semi-aggressive species that is reef-safe with caution, admired for its bold contrast of deep black body, bright yellow tail, and striking blue facial mask. Its unique coloration, large size, and majestic swimming behavior make it one of the most sought-after angelfish species.

Males typically display more intense coloration with a sharper contrast between the yellow and black body, while females/juveniles tend to be slightly duller with less defined markings.

They reach about 12–13 inches in adult size and should be housed in aquariums of at least 180 gallons. Provide plenty of live rock for grazing and hiding spots, a sandy substrate, and ample open swimming space. Stable water parameters are crucial: salinity ~1.020–1.025, temperature ~72–79°F, and pH ~8.1–8.4. A secure lid is recommended since angelfish can be prone to jumping.

Their diet should consist of a varied mix of mysis shrimp, enriched brine shrimp, copepods, high-quality pellets, marine algae, and spirulina-based foods. Supplementing with sponge-based angelfish diets is also beneficial.With proper care, the True Personifer Angelfish makes a stunning and centerpiece addition to a large saltwater aquarium.
