Tripod Filefish

The Tripod Filefish (Tripodichthys strigilifer) is a generally peaceful species that is not reef-safe, as it may nip at corals and invertebrates. It is admired for its unique triangular head, slender body, and striking yellow and brown coloration.

Males and females are similar in appearance, with subtle differences in size and body markings as they mature. This species reaches about 10 inches (25 cm) in length and should be housed in aquariums of at least 100 gallons to provide adequate swimming space.

A well-structured tank with live rock, hiding spots, and open swimming areas is essential, along with stable water parameters (salinity ~1.020–1.025, temperature ~72–78°F, pH ~8.1–8.4) and a secure lid to prevent jumping. 

Their diet should consist of meaty foods such as mysis shrimp, along with supplemental algae-based foods for balanced nutrition. With proper care, the Tripod Filefish makes a captivating and standout addition to a marine aquarium.
