Triplespot Wrasse (Halichoeres trispilus) is a rare and beautiful reef-safe species, gentle in temperament but delicate in care—only for aquarists who want something truly special. It displays a pale body with three distinct blotches on the dorsal fin (which give it the “triplespot” name), red lines under the eyes, and in males a more vivid tail coloration; females/juveniles are more transparent or softer in pink tones. Reaches about 3.5-inches in length. Best kept in aquariums of 80-100 gallons (or more), with very deep fine sand (so it can bury itself when frightened), plenty of live rock and caves for hiding, stable water parameters, and a secure lid (this species is an escape artist). Diet should include small crustaceans, mysis, brine shrimp, zooplankton, and high-quality marine pellets once feeding well.
