Triplespot Blenny

The Triplespot Blenny (Crossosalarias macrospilus) is a peaceful species that is reef-safe with caution, admired for its unique spotted coloration, cryptic patterns, algae-grazing habits, and quirky personality.

Males typically display more vibrant coloration with stronger patterning and may exhibit territorial behavior when competing for space or mates, while females/juveniles tend to have more subdued markings and smaller body size.

They reach about 4 inches (10 cm) as adults and should be housed in aquariums of at least 30 gallons. Provide ample live rock with algae growth, hiding spots, and a sandbed, along with stable water parameters (salinity ~1.020–1.025, temp ~72–79°F, pH ~8.1–8.4). A secure lid is recommended, since blennies are known to jump.

Diet should consist of marine algae, spirulina, nori, and supplemented with mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, copepods, and high-quality pellets formulated for herbivores. With proper care, this fish makes a charming and beneficial addition to the reef aquarium, helping to control nuisance algae while showcasing its spotted beauty.
