Tiera Batfish

Tiera Batfish (Platax teira) is a peaceful species that is reef-safe with caution as juveniles may occasionally nip at soft corals and large polyp stony corals, while adults are generally well-behaved around most invertebrates. This impressive species displays a tall, disc-shaped silver body with subtle golden undertones and distinctive dark vertical banding that becomes less pronounced with age, plus dramatically elongated dorsal and anal fins that create an elegant, flowing silhouette. Distinguished from other batfish by its slightly more elongated body profile and the characteristic dark band through the eye that persists into adulthood. It can reach about 24 inches in adult size. Best kept in tanks of at least 200 gallons or more due to their substantial size and active swimming nature, with plenty of open water column space, moderate water flow, stable water parameters, and appreciation for their hardy nature that makes them one of the more adaptable batfish species. Its diet should include a mix of live or frozen meaty foods—mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, chopped fish, squid, marine worms—as well as high-quality marine pellets and vegetable matter, as this omnivorous species readily accepts varied foods and typically establishes reliable feeding patterns more easily than other batfish species.
