The Thunder Maroon Clownfish (Amphiprion biaculeatus) is an aggressive species that is considered reef-safe with caution, admired for its striking red-and-white coloration, bold contrasting patterns, and unique “marbled” appearance.
Males typically remain smaller, slimmer, and less dominant, while females/juveniles grow significantly larger, more robust, and become the dominant member of the pair.
They reach about 6 inches in adult size and should be housed in aquariums of at least 55 gallons (larger if paired or kept with other tank mates).
Provide ample live rock for territory, caves/hiding spots, and some open swimming space, along with a stable sandbed. Maintain water parameters of salinity ~1.020–1.025, temperature 72–79°F, and pH 8.1–8.4, and ensure a secure lid since clownfish are known to jump.
Diet should consist of a variety of foods including mysis shrimp, enriched brine shrimp, copepods, high-quality pellets, and marine algae-based preparations.
With proper care and respect for their territorial nature, this fish makes a bold and standout addition to the aquarium, especially in reef systems where their personality and vivid coloration truly shine.
