Three Stripe Clownfish

The Three Stripe Clownfish (Amphiprion tricinctus) is a semi-aggressive species that is reef-safe, admired for its distinct black body with three bright white vertical stripes, hardiness, and bold personality.

Males typically remain smaller, more active, and often exhibit submissive behavior such as “shaking” toward dominant females, while females/juveniles grow larger, become more territorial, and usually assume dominance within a pair or group.

They reach about 4–5 inches in adult size and should be housed in aquariums of at least 30 gallons. Provide live rock with hiding spots, open swimming areas, and ideally a host anemone or coral for shelter, along with stable water parameters (salinity ~1.020–1.025, temp ~72–79°F, pH ~8.1–8.4), and a secure lid since many clownfish are prone to jumping.

Diet should consist of a varied mix of frozen mysis shrimp, enriched brine shrimp, finely chopped seafood, copepods, high-quality pellets, and some algae-based foods. With proper care, this fish makes a striking and hardy addition to a marine aquarium, especially for hobbyists seeking a unique clownfish species.
