All fish are checked by marine vets, given a formalin bath, and held for 14 days in copper-treated systems. We feed Selcon-soaked food with Kanaplex and Metroplex during quarantine. Unless marked, all livestock comes with our 15-Day Guarantee. You will receive a video of your fish eating before shipment. For size preference please add a note on your order and we will match your fish to your requested size. If you just want the fish without our QT process, Please email us directly with your order number. Please note this does waive the 15 day guarantee.

The Thornback Guitarfish (Platyrhinoidis triseriata) is a semi-aggressive species that is not reef-safe, admired for its elongated, guitar-shaped body, distinctive thorny dorsal ridges, and mottled brown to gray coloration with subtle patterning. It is a fascinating species for aquarists due to its unique body shape and bottom-dwelling behavior. Males typically have smaller, more slender discs and develop claspers near the pelvic fins, while females and juveniles are broader-bodied, more robust, and grow steadily with age.
They reach about 24–30 inches in total length and should be housed in aquariums of at least 300–400 gallons, with sufficient bottom space for movement and resting. Provide a fine sandbed to prevent abrasions, along with open swimming areas and some rockwork or hiding spots for resting. Stable water parameters are essential, with salinity at 1.020–1.025, temperature between 72–79°F, and pH of 8.1–8.4. A secure lid is important, as rays may jump or attempt to climb the tank walls.
Diet should consist of mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, small crustaceans, chopped fish, squid, clam meat, and other meaty marine foods, occasionally supplemented with high-quality sinking pellets. With proper care, the Thornback Guitarfish makes a striking and unique addition to an advanced marine aquarium, showcasing its elegant swimming and fascinating patterns.

On request, we also send photos/videos after arrival at IA. Some species are import-to-order (3-10 business days). Many common species are already cleared or near the end of QT.
Several species will be import-to-order and may take anywhere from 3-10 business days to secure. Once your fish is secured, you will be notified, and the quarantine process will then begin.
