The Ternate Damselfish (Amblyglyphidodon ternatensis) is a semi-aggressive species that is reef-safe, admired for its vibrant silver-white body accented with a yellow dorsal region and striking black spot near the dorsal fin, giving it a bold and eye-catching appearance.
Males typically display slightly brighter coloration and increased territorial behavior, especially during breeding, while females and juveniles remain more subdued in hue and less aggressive. They reach about 3 inches in length and should be housed in aquariums of at least 30 gallons to provide ample swimming space and reduce territorial disputes. A setup with plenty of live rock for hiding spots, a moderate sandbed, and open swimming areas is ideal, along with stable water parameters (salinity ~1.020–1.025, temperature ~72–79°F, pH ~8.1–8.4). A secure lid is essential, as these fish can be prone to jumping.
Their diet should consist of a variety of mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, copepods, high-quality pellets, and occasional algae-based foods to ensure proper nutrition. With proper care, the Ternate Damselfish makes a hardy, active, and visually striking addition to a marine aquarium.
