The Ternate Chromis (Chromis ternatensis) is a semi-aggressive, reef-safe with caution species, admired for its yellowish to greyish-brown body that fades to white on the lower belly, accented by a dark margin on the caudal fin and a vertical bar through the eye. Males are slightly more colorful, especially during breeding, while females and juveniles have a more muted appearance. They reach about 4 inches (10.5 cm) in length and should be housed in aquariums of at least 30 gallons. A suitable environment includes a sandbed, live rock with hiding spots, and open swimming areas, along with a secure lid to prevent jumping. Stable water parameters are essential, with salinity around 1.020–1.025, temperature 72–79°F, and pH 8.1–8.4. Their diet should consist of mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, copepods, algae-based foods, and high-quality pellets. With proper care, the Ternate Chromis becomes a vibrant, active, and standout addition to any reef aquarium.
