Tanaka’s Possum Wrasse (Wetmorella tanakai) is a small, reef-safe wrasse that makes an excellent addition to peaceful reef systems. Known for its secretive yet charming personality, this species displays a reddish to orange body with distinct white vertical bars and delicate spotting that gives it a truly unique appearance. Growing to only about 2–2.5 inches, it is perfectly suited for nano and mid-sized aquariums of at least 20 gallons, provided there are plenty of live rock crevices and caves where it can hide and feel secure. Despite being shy at first, Tanaka’s Possum Wrasse adapts well and becomes more active over time. It is entirely reef-safe, making it a great choice for systems with corals and invertebrates. Diet should include finely chopped meaty foods such as mysis shrimp, enriched brine shrimp, copepods, and high-quality frozen blends, offered in small frequent feedings.
