Sunshine Chromis

The Sunshine Chromis (Chromis insolatus) is a peaceful species that is reef-safe, admired for its vibrant coloration with shades of yellow, purple, and silver, small size, and schooling behavior.

Males typically display slightly brighter coloration during breeding and are slightly larger than females, while females and juveniles have a more subdued silver-blue body with a yellow upper half and a distinct black spot near the pectoral fin. They reach about 2–3 inches in length and should be housed in aquariums of at least 30 gallons.

Provide a setup with live rock, sandbed, hiding spots, and open swimming areas, along with stable water parameters (salinity ~1.020–1.025, temperature ~72–79°F, pH ~8.1–8.4) and a secure lid, as this species is prone to jumping. Their diet should consist of a variety of mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, copepods, pellets, and algae, and with proper care, the Sunshine Chromis makes a vibrant and peaceful addition to any reef aquarium.
