Sunrise Dottyback

My species/animal is a fish — Sunrise Dottyback (Pseudochromis flavivertex). It is a semi-aggressive species that is reef-safe, admired for its striking coloration, featuring a vibrant yellow tail and lower body blending into a bright blue-violet upper body, compact size, and bold personality.

Males typically are slightly larger and more territorial, often exhibiting more vivid coloration and displaying during courtship, while females/juveniles tend to be smaller with slightly paler coloration and more subdued behavior. They reach about 3 inches in adult size and should be housed in aquariums of at least 20 to 30 gallons.

Provide plenty of live rock with caves and hiding spots, along with open swimming space, stable water parameters (salinity ~1.020–1.025, temp ~72–79°F, pH ~8.1–8.4), and a secure lid since dottybacks are prone to jumping.

Diet should consist of mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, copepods, finely chopped seafood, and high-quality marine pellets or frozen foods, and with proper care, this fish makes a standout addition to the aquarium thanks to its beautiful gradient coloration and lively behavior.
