Striped Dottyback

My species/animal is a fish — Striped Dottyback (Pseudochromis sankeyi). It is a semi-aggressive species that is reef-safe with caution, admired for its distinctive black-and-white vertical striping pattern, small size, and lively behavior.

Males typically exhibit more pronounced coloration and may establish small territories, especially in mature specimens, while females/juveniles tend to be smaller with slightly less intense striping and more peaceful demeanor. They reach about 3 inches in adult size and should be housed in aquariums of at least 30 gallons.

Provide a well-structured environment with plenty of live rock, caves, and hiding spots along with open swimming space, stable water parameters (salinity ~1.020–1.025, temp ~72–79°F, pH ~8.1–8.4), and a secure lid since many dottybacks are known jumpers.

Diet should consist of mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, copepods, and high-quality pellets or frozen marine foods, and with proper care, this fish makes a standout addition to reef aquariums thanks to its striking pattern and active nature.
