Stripe-Tailed Dottyback

My species/animal is a fish — Stripe-Tailed Dottyback (Pseudochromis caudalis). It is a semi-aggressive species that is reef-safe with caution, admired for its vibrant purple-to-blue body contrasted by a bold yellow tail with black horizontal stripes, compact size, and energetic personality.

Males typically grow slightly larger and may display more vivid coloration and territorial behavior, while females/juveniles are often smaller and slightly duller in appearance, with more passive behavior in a well-structured environment. They reach about 3 inches in adult size and should be housed in aquariums of at least 30 gallons.

Provide ample live rock with caves and crevices for hiding, as well as open swimming space, stable water parameters (salinity ~1.020–1.025, temp ~72–79°F, pH ~8.1–8.4), and a secure lid since this species is known to jump.

Diet should consist of mysis shrimp, enriched brine shrimp, copepods, finely chopped marine meat, and high-quality pellets or frozen foods, and with proper care, this fish makes a standout addition to the aquarium thanks to its unique coloration and active behavior.
