The Striated Frogfish (Antennarius striatus) is a semi-aggressive species that is reef-safe with caution, admired for its striped body patterns, ability to change coloration to match surroundings, distinctive "worm-like" lure (illicium and esca), and shaggy, hair-like appendages that enhance its camouflage.
Males typically are significantly smaller and less commonly observed in the aquarium trade, while females/juveniles are larger, more robust, and exhibit more developed striping and coloration patterns depending on their environment. They reach about 5–6 inches and should be housed in aquariums of at least 30 gallons.
Provide plenty of live rock, crevices, and hiding spots, along with low to moderate flow and minimal open swimming space, as they prefer to perch and ambush prey. Maintain stable water parameters (salinity ~1.020–1.025, temp ~72–79°F, pH ~8.1–8.4), and a secure lid is essential as this species is capable of jumping or lunging during feeding.
Diet should consist of live or frozen meaty foods such as mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, ghost shrimp, silversides, and occasionally small fish or crustaceans. With training, they can adapt to frozen foods. With proper care, this fish makes a standout addition to the aquarium, captivating observers with its bizarre movements, cryptic behavior, and lightning-fast strike speed.

On request, we also send photos/videos after arrival at IA. Some species are import-to-order (3-10 business days). Many common species are already cleared or near the end of QT.
Several species will be import-to-order and may take anywhere from 3-10 business days to secure. Once your fish is secured, you will be notified, and the quarantine process will then begin.
