Streamlined Rabbitfish (Siganus argenteus) is a peaceful species that is completely reef-safe, making it an excellent choice for mixed reef systems as it poses no threat to corals or invertebrates while focusing primarily on algae grazing. This sleek rabbitfish displays a brilliant silver to white body with a distinctly streamlined, torpedo-like shape that's more elongated than other rabbitfish species, complemented by subtle yellow tinges on the fins and the characteristic rabbit-like face and constantly grazing mouth used for tireless algae consumption. The gleaming silver coloration with hydrodynamic body shape and diligent algae-eating behavior make it both an elegant swimmer and highly effective natural algae controller. It can reach about 14-16 inches in adult size. Best kept in tanks of at least 150 gallons or more due to their substantial size and active swimming nature, with plenty of open swimming space, abundant live rock for algae growth, excellent water quality, and careful handling around their venomous dorsal spines, though they're generally very peaceful and often become quite interactive with their owners. Its diet should focus heavily on marine algae—nori sheets, spirulina, dried seaweed, quality herbivore pellets—with occasional meaty supplements like mysis shrimp, as this primarily herbivorous species requires constant access to plant matter for optimal health and will provide excellent nuisance algae control while maintaining their pristine silver appearance.
