Steinitz Goby w/ Pistol Shrimp

The Steinitz Goby w/ Pistol Shrimp (Amblyeleotris steinitzi) is a peaceful species that is reef-safe, admired for its slender body, striking orange and white coloration with fine horizontal stripes, and fascinating symbiotic behavior with its pistol shrimp partner. This duo is both visually captivating and beneficial for substrate aeration in marine aquariums.

Males typically grow slightly larger, with more vivid coloration along the body and fins, while females and juveniles are smaller with softer tones but retain the characteristic striping. They reach about 3–4 inches in length and should be housed in aquariums of at least 30 gallons, ideally with a deep sandbed.

Provide a fine sandbed for burrowing, scattered live rock for shelter, and open areas for swimming. Stable water parameters are essential (salinity ~1.020–1.025, temp ~72–79°F, pH ~8.1–8.4), and a secure lid is highly recommended, as gobies can jump if startled.

Diet should consist of frozen mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, copepods, and high-quality sinking pellets. With proper care, the Steinitz Goby w/ Pistol Shrimp adds dynamic burrowing activity, a symbiotic spectacle, and subtle beauty to reef aquariums.
