Starry Grouper

Starry Grouper (Epinephelus labriformis). It is a semi-aggressive species that is reef-safe with caution, admired for its beautiful star-like white spotting over a dark body, bold patterns, and powerful grouper build.

Males typically grow larger, develop stronger coloration contrast, and display territorial behavior, while females/juveniles remain smaller, with slightly less vivid markings.

They reach about 24 inches in adult size and should be housed in aquariums of at least 180 gallons or larger. Provide ample live rock for hiding spots, caves, and some open swimming space, with a sandy or mixed substrate. Maintain stable water parameters (salinity ~1.020–1.025, temp ~72–79°F, pH ~8.1–8.4), and ensure a secure lid since groupers are powerful and may jump.

Diet should consist of meaty foods such as mysis shrimp, krill, chopped fish, squid, and high-quality carnivore pellets, offered in varied portions. With proper care, this fish makes a striking and commanding addition to a large marine aquarium.
