Starry Blood Red Fire Shrimp

The Invertebrate Starry Blood Red Fire Shrimp (Lysmata splendida) is a peaceful species that is reef-safe, admired for its vibrant red coloration with white spots, elegant long white antennae, and unique symbiotic cleaning behavior.

Males typically have slightly slimmer bodies and less pronounced coloration, while females/juveniles exhibit fuller bodies and slightly brighter patterning. They reach about 3 inches (7–8 cm) and should be housed in aquariums of at least 20 gallons.

Provide a sandy substrate, plenty of live rock for hiding spots, and open swimming space. Maintain stable water parameters (salinity ~1.020–1.025, temperature ~72–79°F, pH ~8.1–8.4), and ensure a secure lid since many shrimp species are prone to jumping.

Diet should consist of meaty foods such as mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, finely chopped seafood, and occasionally high-quality pellets. With proper care, the Starry Blood Red Fire Shrimp makes a striking and active addition to a reef or marine aquarium, providing both color and beneficial cleaning behavior.
