Star Spotted Rabbitfish (Siganus stellatus) is a peaceful species that is completely reef-safe, making it an excellent choice for mixed reef systems as it poses no threat to corals or invertebrates while focusing primarily on algae grazing. This beautiful rabbitfish displays a golden-yellow to cream base coloration adorned with numerous small white spots scattered across the body and fins like stars against a golden sky, creating an enchanting celestial pattern complemented by the characteristic rabbit-like face and constantly grazing mouth used for tireless algae consumption. The brilliant golden body with distinctive white star-like spotting and diligent algae-eating behavior make it both a captivating visual centerpiece and highly effective natural algae controller. It can reach about 10-12 inches in adult size. Best kept in tanks of at least 125 gallons or more due to their active swimming and foraging nature, with plenty of live rock for algae growth and grazing opportunities, excellent water quality, and careful handling around their venomous dorsal spines, though they're generally very peaceful and often become quite personable with their keepers. Its diet should focus heavily on marine algae—nori sheets, spirulina, dried seaweed, quality herbivore pellets—with occasional meaty supplements like mysis shrimp, as this primarily herbivorous species requires constant access to plant matter for proper health and will effectively control nuisance algae while maintaining their spectacular star-spotted golden appearance.
