Springeri Dottyback

My species/animal is a fish — Springeri Dottyback (Pseudochromis springeri). It is a semi-aggressive species that is reef-safe, admired for its deep black body accented by striking electric blue horizontal stripes, compact size, and hardy nature, making it a favorite among beginners and experienced aquarists alike.

Males typically are slightly larger and may show more intense coloration or territorial behavior, while females/juveniles tend to be smaller and less dominant in interactions with tankmates. They reach about 2 to 2.5 inches in adult size and should be housed in aquariums of at least 20 gallons.

Provide ample live rock with caves and hiding spots, along with open swimming space, stable water parameters (salinity ~1.020–1.025, temp ~72–79°F, pH ~8.1–8.4), and a secure lid since many dottybacks are prone to jumping.

Diet should consist of mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, copepods, finely chopped marine meats, and high-quality marine pellets, and with proper care this fish makes a standout addition to the aquarium.
