Spotted Grouper

Spotted Grouper [Plectropomus maculatus] is a [semi-aggressive] species that is [reef-safe with caution], admired for [its striking red to pink body covered with blue to lavender spots, bold patterns, large adult size, and predatory presence].

Males typically [develop brighter coloration with more vivid spotting and larger body mass as they mature, often becoming territorial], while females/juveniles [are smaller, less intensely colored, and more cryptic in behavior until they reach maturity].

They reach about [up to 35 inches in adulthood] and should be housed in aquariums of at least [300+ gallons]. Provide [ample live rock for caves and hiding spots, a sandy substrate, and large open swimming space], stable water parameters (salinity ~1.020–1.025, temp ~72–79°F, pH ~8.1–8.4), and a secure lid since many species are prone to jumping.

Diet should consist of [meaty offerings such as silversides, shrimp, squid, clams, and high-quality carnivore pellets; they may accept frozen mysis or krill when younger but require larger prey as they grow], and with proper care this fish makes a standout addition to the aquarium.
