Spotfin Anthias

The Spotfin Anthias (Rabaulichthys stigmaticus) is a peaceful species that is reef-safe with caution, admired for its delicate body, vibrant pink to purple coloration, distinctive black spot on the dorsal fin, and elegant, hovering swimming behavior. Males typically display slightly brighter and more intense coloration with elongated dorsal fins and more prominent black spotting, while females/juveniles are smaller, paler in color, and have a less pronounced dorsal spot. They reach about 3–4 inches and should be housed in aquariums of at least 50–70 gallons, ideally with groups to mimic their natural social structure.

Provide live rock with plenty of hiding spots and caves, open swimming space, and a sandbed to replicate their reef environment. Stable water parameters are critical (salinity ~1.020–1.025, temp ~72–79°F, pH ~8.1–8.4), and a secure lid is highly recommended, as anthias can jump.

Their diet should consist of frozen mysis shrimp, enriched brine shrimp, copepods, and high-quality micro pellets, offered in multiple small feedings throughout the day to support their active metabolism. With proper care, the Spotfin Anthias is a colorful, graceful, and reef-compatible species that adds both movement and vibrancy to a marine aquarium.
